Curriculum

Since 1973, LHCP has been providing children with an engaging early childhood experience. We have created a curriculum that fosters curiosity, discovery, and problem-solving skills through play. This curriculum boosts brainpower through making choices and questioning. These strategies help develop confidence, positive self-identity and an excitement for learning. Our school focuses on creating a child-centered environment that encourages our philosophy.

Play - Teachers facilitate the learning process by creating learning centers and providing exploration times. Our hands-on approach to learning requires a child’s mind and body to be actively involved in the classroom environment with social interaction. LHCP focuses on active and direct play where children explore, discover, and make connections.

Academics - Early literacy, math, social studies, science, creative arts, physical movement, health, social-emotional and spiritual development are all integrated throughout the curriculum. Direct instruction ensures that children receive target skills, understand concepts, and practice strategies.

Assessments – Summative assessments are performed during the year using developmental checklists specific to each age group. Skills and concepts are reviewed, revisited, and expanded throughout the preschool years.

Philosophy

Discover. Develop. Deepen.

These are the building blocks of our philosophy. Being part of a preschool environment that focuses on these three principles builds core values and provides unlimited benefits in shaping children's spirits and identities.

Discover

We focus on discovery through creating a hands-on environment that fosters curiosity and problem-solving skills.  Facilitating discovery through play sets the stage for a lifetime love of learning.

Develop

LHCP creates a place where children will be developing the skills needed to continue their educational careers.  Along with advancing their academics, children will develop the skills for making good choices, patience, compassion and understanding for those in the community and classroom.

Deepen

Deepening the understanding of God’s Word is the final building block of our program. With a Christ-centered foundation, based on biblical principles, we help foster honesty, respect, loving one another and spiritual growth.

The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  Galatians 5:22-23

Special Events that enhance our Curriculum

While our events may look a little different this year, we are still incorporating fun festivities with our classes!

Circus

A perennial favorite among students, parents, and teachers alike; the LHCP Circus is not to be missed!  Students in the Sparks class dress as circus animals or clowns and perform fun acts for their parents and the students in the Sunbeams and Shining Stars classes. Be sure to bring your camera; adorable photos of your precious lion or tiger or bear (oh my!) guaranteed!

Christmas Concert

All of our classes participate in a very special Christmas program each year. They bring the meaning of Christmas to their audience through songs and poems. A celebration with all the families follows.

Harvest Festival

Throw on your favorite flannel shirt and join your child at the LHCP Harvest Festival. Pick a pumpkin on the front lawn pumpkin patch, and then visit the gym for a carnival-style celebration featuring games and other fun activities.

Quiver Farm

This celebration of spring brings farm life to our school.  It offers students and their families the opportunity to meet, pet, feed and enjoy friendly farm animals while learning what life is like on Quiver Farm.

Chick Hatching

A visit from a hen and rooster to drop off chick eggs from Quiver Farm begins our chick hatching experience each year. It's hard to contain the excitement as the children observe the eggs in the incubator to hatching baby chicks.

Butterfly Metamorphosis

It's time to grow! The children get to experience the fascinating life cycle of the Painted Lady Butterfly- from caterpillars to chrysalides to butterflies!

Mom and dad events

During the year we have separate mom and dad events for your preschooler to enjoy!

Fire Truck Visit

The Green Village Fire Department visits our school every year during fire safety month. The children have an opportunity to see a firefighter dressed in his protective gear, learn about the equipment and sit in the fire truck!

Pizza Days

Every month we offer pizza days for the 3s, 4s, and 5s!

Graduation

The Sparks take part in a lovely graduation ceremony where they celebrate and are celebrated. It is a touching ceremony where the children receive a diploma, sing songs and recite poems. Afterwards we gather to share memories of their wonderful preschool years with fellow classmates and families.

Enrichments

A variety of enrichments are offered to the 3s and 4s!

Turtle Back Zoo Field Trip

At the end of the year we invite our families to meet at the zoo for a school-wide field trip!
